Being out west for our family vacation meant being able to take pictures of my brother Andrew and his adorable family! And just like the last time we did their portraits- two years ago, darling Rebecca was pregnant!! So even though we don’t have “all” of the family visible right here, we still had to take these family pictures. Because it’s about all of this love now! I love these people and the pictures that we captured of them together. And to satisfy this pre-western Canadian girl – we ended the night with all of us together, with a prairie silhouette. I miss those Alberta sunsets. Enjoy this delightful family (especially the tickling shot!).

On the way to Alberta to visit our family, meant stopping in and seeing even more family on the way! These guys are in Manitoba, and getting to spend a day with them, and getting in a family portrait session was such fun! They have the most gorgeous farm, and this spot with white birch trees made me so happy… though the pesky mosquito’s were just plain awful. They were all so patient despite the heat and bugs and we got in a bunch of images. These are some of my favorites from the evening – and you have to check out the little guy’s bowtie!

This sweet family stopped by for a visit for a few days on their cross-Canada trip, from Nova Scotia to British Columbia. Jared and Breanne have three adorable little ones – and my 7 year old and their oldest, became fast friends, just like Breanne and I did some 23 years ago! Breanne is a mom of three and a great blogger at This Vintage Moment. She is a beautiful writer, a lover of books, and sweet simplicity. I’ve known Jared for ages too, so seeing them as parents of these three – with two precious ones in heaven – is pretty neat. In between catching up like crazy and letting our kids play together, we managed to squeezed a family shoot. They put together some outfits that they had brought along for the trip – and they coordinated beautifully! Jared has done a bunch of photography over the years as well, so it was fun to have him on the other side of the camera. Their three kiddos, Kilmeny, Khaira and Kieran, were so great, as they played around & posed with mom and dad. God gave us such perfect sunlight, and we just had some fun as friend. Enjoy these guys!

Rebecca and Jan met a tractor pull, set up by some friends. I guess it worked out quite well for these two as now their wedding date is September 16th! (friends like that are real keepers!) Doing engagement shoots is quite enjoyable for me, but I always go way overtime like I did for these two! Partially, it was because the sun was really harsh at a new location, when we started, and I wanted them to have some of that pretty light that requires more patience…and then also because there are so many different ways to capture them that I can just keep going on and on! 🙂 They were super patient, and we had some great time together. Now we’re looking forward to their upcoming wedding!!

I really enjoy doing extended family shoots. It’s just a whole lot of crazy  busyness, and fun! Everyone’s finally all ready to go do this shoot – after coordinating dates & colors over email and phone, with multiple people and many ages. And then they all get together, and are sweet with how I pose them, putting arms around each other, doing silly things, and we all end up just having a lot of fun! They laugh when I tell them to “look at each other and remember how you love this crazy bunch” and then we get that shot that’s my fav…. ones of them looking at each other with love and that sparkle in the eyes. Then we move on to the shot of everyone doing the great smile and laughter and then all then individual family shots. Lots of memories are made as cousins who aren’t being called on yet, run and play, and then it’s back to more pictures… and every time, as I learn their names and see this whole family as one big unit, I feel like a part of their family for a bit. And that’s kinda neat. 🙂 Meet the Goodkey family – lots of caring cousins, and great parents – and grandparents who tirelessly love each. We did this in a pretty spot on a breezy cool day, but they all did so good -as they threw coats on and off to get these pictures!

Our little girl arrived on March 24th, 8 days overdue, and very excitedly anticipated! We were surprised it was a girl, since having 3 other little girls and boy, just kind of thought it’s a good time for another boy… 🙂 But we are totally thrilled about this pink package God gave us! And a week after she was born, I attempted a newborn shoot – which wasn’t all I had hoped, so I tried again a week later. Creativity and strength don’t abound a whole lot during the first few weeks, unless it’s in the pursuit of sleep and looking after babe! But I got enough images to make me glad I did it, and then it was back to feeding, and looking after our little girl. We named her “Leanne” because we liked it, and it wasn’t an “overused” name in our circles, and “Esther” after my maternal grandma, Esther Johnson who is now with Jesus. She is being completely adored by this family, and we love having lots of pink around the house! Meet Leanne Esther Heikoop – 9lbs. 8oz. and 20.5″ long of cuteness.

All winter long I wanted to get outside and take some pictures of my little three year old blondie in her red, fur trimmed coat. But, the winter kept dragging on, and I didn’t get the chance – partly cause I couldn’t leave the rest of my little ones at home whenever we had a fresh downfall to get just pictures of this adorable. And also, because I was very pregnant with baby #5 and pretty tired. But baby finally came… then it warmed up again… and then. It snowed again. This time, I knew that it would be my last chance before spring really came. So, with my mom staying with us to help out with our darling new baby, I seized the moment, and out in the snow we went. Just us two. We only spend about 15 minutes outside, but we got some sweet images  that I will treasure for this lifetime. My little Laura was so willing to do a few poses for me and we just had fun.
